Could Surge Protection be the Xbox 360s nemesis?

There are rumours circulating that the reason so many Xbox 360s are dying with the ‘Red Ring of Death’ might be that they’re plugged in to a surge protectors. Many gamers who have returned their consoles for repair have been told by customer services that surge protectors may be causing the failure. As odd as this might sound apparently 90% of returned Xbox consoles have been plugged in to a surge protector. But this isn’t really surprising; with the amount of money people have invested in their multimedia systems it seems obvious that most sane people will have spent something on a decent power strip? So perhaps the 90% is pretty near the norm for the tech savvy people who’ll own a 360.

Either way it seems that there is a serious fault with the Xbox hardware regardless. Just be grateful that Microsoft has had the decency to extend their warranty to 3 years even if that does only cover the ‘Red Ring of Death’ faults.
